The aim of building tightness test

These measurements help to evaluate the level of building tightness and determine the leaking locations of a building. The buildings of energy performance class A, A+, A++ have to be designed in a way, that their tightness does not exceed the air circulation values indicated in the technical regulation of construction, when the difference between the interior and exterior preassure is 50Pa.

Measurement requirements for the tightness (air permeability) of buildings and their elements

Buildings of energy performance class C, B, A, A+, or A++ have to be designed and built in a way that their tightness - when the difference between the interior and exterior preassure is 50Pa - does not exceed the air circulation values indicated in the technical regulation of construction:

  • In accommodation and administrative spaces, teaching and treatment facilities of energy performance class C – 2,0 times per hour;
  • In accommodation and administrative spaces, teaching and treatment facilities of energy performance class B – 1,5 times per hour;
  • In accommodation and administrative spaces, teaching and treatment facilities of energy performance class A – 1,0 time per hour;
  • In accommodation and administrative spaces, teaching and treatment facilities of energy performance class A+ and A++ – 0,6 times per hour;
  • In hotels, catering, sports, trade and other buildings of energy performance class C and B – 2 times per hour;
  • In hotels, catering, sports, trade and other buildings of energy performance class A – 1,5 times per hour;
  • In hotels, catering, sports, trade and other buildings of energy performance class A+ and A++ – 1 time per hour.

What is the benefit of performing building tightness measurements

During these measurements we acquire the knowledge about the need to "seal" the building, leaky places of a building are determined, the quality of door and window installation is evaluated. A smoke generator is used to determine leaky places of a building.

For buildings of energy performance class A and higher tightness measurements are mandatory.

  • The overall tightness level of a building is evaluated;
  • The quality of installed structures is evaluated;
  • Leaky structures are found, and consultations are provided.

Building tightness measurements are performed in accordance with:

LST EN ISO 9972:2015 "Thermal performance of buildings - Determination of air permeability of buildings - Fan pressurization method".

STR 2.01.09:2012 "Energy performance of a building. Energy performance certification".
