Building Acoustics Measurements

The sound class of a building is determined by performing acoustic measurements. When acknowledging a building suitable to use it‘s factual sound class (A, B, C, D, E) has to be determined. Field measurements are performed in order to determine the sound class. During these measurements, values of indicaros of the insulation of airborne sound, impact sound, reverberation time, and environmental noise are determined.

Measurements are conducted according to these standards:

  • LST EN ISO 16283-1:2014 "Acoustics - Field measurement of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements - Part 1: Airborne sound insulation". LST EN ISO 717-1:2013 "Acoustics - Rating of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements - Part 1: Airborne sound insulation."
  • LST EN ISO 16283-2:2015 "Acoustics - Field measurement of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements - Part 2: Impact sound insulation." LST EN ISO 717-2:2013 "Acoustics - Rating of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements - Part 2: Impact sound insulation."
  • LST EN ISO 16283-3:2016 "Acoustics Field measurement of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements Part 3: Facade sound insulation." LST EN ISO 717-1:2013 "Acoustics - Rating of sound insulation in buildings and of building elements - Part 1: Airborne sound insulation".
  • LST EN ISO 3382-2:2008 "Acoustics - Measurement of room acoustic parameters - Part 2: Reverberation time in ordinary rooms."; LST EN ISO 3382-2:2008/AC:2009.

Sound classes of buildings:

Sound class A – class of particularly good acoustic comfort conditions;

Sound class B – class of improved acoustic comfort conditions;

Sound class C – class of acceptable acoustic comfort conditions;

Sound class D – class of insufficient acoustic comfort conditions;

Sound class E – class of marginal acoustic comfort conditions.

According to technical regulation of construction Article STR 2.01.07:2003 the sound class of inner environment of newly designed semi-detached, multi-dwelling buildings, residential blocks, and some noise-sensitive non-residential buildings has to be no less than a class C.

The sound class of a single dwelling unit building is designed by the client; however, it has to be no less than class E.

UAB "Tyrimų laboratorija" is performing acoustic measurements of buildings in a quick, qualitative, and professional manner within the territory of Lithuania. Measurements are performed by qualified and experienced specialists. If an inappropriate sound class is determined in a building, we provide consultation on matters of sound insulation of a building.
